III. b. ii. Drawing a line feature

So we have a blank shape file. We need to draw a line onto this shape file to identify the plotted route
In this exercise, you will:
- Explore editing options
- Draw a line feature in ArcMap
Text Version:
- Add the blank shape file we just created to the map view
- Begin editing the blank shape file
- Select “Editor” in the Editor toolbar (bottom of screen) and left click “start editing”
- Navigate to the folder that contains your blank shapefile
- Press “OK”
- Draw a line connecting the route vertices
- Ensure that the specified task says, “Create New Feature” and the target is the blank shapefile
- Double click the pencil in the Editor Toolbar to select it
- Left click the mouse when the cross-hairs with the blue circle is directly above one of the end vertices (you may need to zoom in for precision and use panning tools).
- Drag the cross-hairs to the next vertex and left click to draw a line
- Repeat with consecutive vertices until the last vertex
- On the last vertex, double left click the mouse to end the line
- In the Editor Toolbar Select “Save Edits” and then “Stop Editing”
(Note: If you miss double clicking on the last vertex, you can right click ->finish sketch.)
